Rose Bouquet

Rose Bouquet

To make the vase, I cut a circle from red cardstock sized at 7.5cm, and a light pink scalloped circle at 4.5cm.
Take an A4 size sheet of white cardstock, and stamp or embellish as desired. Attached some double-sided tape along one edge (leaving protective backing strip on), and roll sheet into a cylinder. Holding this at one end, fan out the other end until the desired size is reached. Remove the backing strip and adhere.
Cut about 4cm from the small end (trying to keep a straight edge), and adhere to the base (a good strong glue is required here). Put extra adhesive around the outside and glitter to give a nice finish.
When dry, I then attached the “Cupid” design from “Lovestruck”. This was cut at 10cm, with rectangle bands welded to either side (as for the serviette rings) sized at 6cm x 2cm. These then flow around the vase.
Rose Bouquet 2

Rose Bouquet 2

I used only the circle shape (7 circles welded) from “George & Basic Shapes” cartridge to make these roses, though any six petal flower shape will work. To make one rose, you need three 6 petal flowers (same size). In the first flower, make a cut from the edge to the middle.  With the second flower, cut one petal out, and with the third flower, cut two petals out (pictured below).

Cut Flowers

Cut Flowers

The next step is to take the 3 large flower pieces and glue together overlapping the two edge petals.

05-07

05-08

05-09

Take the two petal piece, and fold it around, gluing the edge (as below).

05-10

You should now have four flowers – 5 petal / 4 petal / 3 petal and 2 petal – and the one single piece.

05-11

With a skewer stick, pencil, or similar object, curl the edges of the three larger flowers as desired. (I prefer the skewer for a finer detail).

05-12

As the paper is quite tight in the two petal flower, I curl the edges in 2 different directions.

05-13

The single petal piece is curled in tightly from the pointed end and then the petal end. Curl at a slight angle in a “V” shape so one side is smaller.

05-14

05-15

I then coloured skewer sticks in a green ink, and tied with a matching ribbon.

05-16

Pierce a small hole in the centre of the largest flower.

05-17

Then cut a small piece from the bottom of the next 3 flowers.

05-18

Insert the skewer slightly into the bottom of the large flower and glue. Add extra glue and place the next flower on top. Repeat this until the four flowers are arranged. (A hot glue gun a quick drying – I used a white glue here to show where to glue).

05-19

05-20

05-21

Place some glue along the bottom edge of the single petal and insert it into the middle.

05-22

I then add some light glue to the edges of the petals, and sprinkle with diamond glitter.

Hi Everyone,

I was so inspired when I received this cartridge, that I wanted to show the diversity of what can be achieved with one cartridge. Being a romantic at heart, I decided to do a romantic table setting for two. Hope you like it.

"Dinner For Two"

"Dinner For Two"

03-02

“Lovestruck” is the main cartridge used here, but there are a couple of shapes from “George & Basic Shapes” and “Storybook”.
PLACEMATS:
The placemats are cut from red cardstock using one of the pretty heart designs. It was cut “fit to page” which came out at 26cm. I used clear glass plates so the design could be seen underneath.
Placemat

Placemat

Serviette Rings
The serviette rings are cut from the same red cardstock with the “line of hearts” sized at 10cm. I have welded two rectangles (from George & Basic Shapes) cut at 6cm x 1.5cm on each side and put a small cut in each one so they can be slotted together around the serviette.
Serviette Rings

Serviette Rings

Romantic Candle
I have used another of the pretty hearts with the silhouettes of a man and woman. This is cut from white cardstock sized at 8cm, and glued around the candle.
Romantic Candle

Romantic Candle

Heart Gift Box “For Her”
This gift box was again cut “fit to page” which was 27cm from pink cardstock. I have embellished it on the bottom with a wide pink/red ribbon with pearls. The heart design around the top is the same line of hearts as the “serviette rings”, but with the “aspect ratio” off, I stretched the pattern to 26cm x 4cm. This is then long enough to go right around the box.
The heart design in the cut-out is the same as for the “placemats”. This heart is sized at 4.5cm and using the Cricut Colour Markers, the design was drawn on clear acetate and adhered to the inside of the box. This is then finished off with a pretty pink pearl.
Heart Gift Box "For Her"

Heart Gift Box "For Her"

Gift Mailbox “For Her”
Again, the mailbox was cut “fit to page” at 28cm from the same pink cardstock. The little pink heart on the top is the heart cut from the flag. The hearts on the front and rear of the box is another of the pretty heart designs on the cartridge.  The background is a plain heart cut from white cardstock, and the layer is cut from a deep pink cardstock, sized 5.5cm, and blinged up with plenty of glitter. The hearts on the side are punched out of deep pink paper with gorgeous velvet ric-rac along the top.
Gift Mailbox "For Her"

Gift Mailbox "For Her"

Love You Card “For Him”
This card is made with black cardstock cut at 15cm x 21cm. A lightly patterned red paper is cut at 14.5cm x 10cm.
The black line of hearts is the same design as for the “serviette rings”, cut at 10cm. The tag shapes are cut from “Storybook” cartridge, at 5cm, 5.6cm, and 9cm. The 9cm black shape is then embossed with “Textile” cuttlebug folder. “Love You”  is embossed with silver embossing powder and heat tool.
The red hearts are cut in silhouette from “George & Basic Shapes” at 4cm from red cardstock and then highlighted using red Kindyglitz. I have then finished the card with red ribbon, red heart brad and black rhinestones.
Love You Card "For Him"

Love You Card "For Him"

I finished the table setting with a bouquet of deep red roses. The instructions for these will be in a separate posting.
Here are the Gypsy files needed for everything above.
I hope this has inspired you to celebrate Valentine’s Day with your loved one.
With love!
Tereesa.

candles lit on tile

The Love Struck mini cartridge has many wonderful images including some extremely delicate and beautiful hearts.  I used one of these hearts to make a design to etch on a mirror tile as the base for a romantic centerpiece.  You can also cut the same design in paper and use it for a scrapbook page.

paper cut out of mirror tile pattern

The design is quite simple but there is a little trick to obtain the effect I wanted for my tile.  You need to used the “hide selected contour” feature of Design Studio to create the negative space for the etching.

Heart_for_mirror_tile_project

I used this heart  and added four to my 12 x 12 inch mat, turning each at a forty-five degree angle and placing them around the center to create a lace doily effect.

preview_with_no_contours_hidden

Here is the way the file will appear if you preview it directly after opening the file – it would just cut the four hearts from the paper or vinyl.

preview_with_contours_hidden

By hiding the outer line of each heart I can make a design that is cut into the paper which leaves many tiny areas for the etching cream to create the heart design.  To do this, left click directly on the line to choose it -the line will turn dotted red -  then right click and select “hide selected contour” from the bottom of the drop down menu.  Because there is only one line hidden, it will not stay hidden when the file is closed.  I have placed a note on the tab for the cutting page to remind you to hide the lines before cutting.

vinyl on tile ready for etching

I used some Wall-Pops vinyl that I bought on clearance.  The pattern is rather gaudy and I knew I couldn’t use it for my house but I could make a great etching pattern with it no matter what the printed design looks like!  The material came in six and a half inch strips so I needed two of these on my mat (trimmed to 6 x 12).

To “kiss cut” the vinyl (cutting the vinyl but leaving the backing intact) I use medium pressure, medium speed and blade depth 4.  You may want to experiment with some scraps to be sure of the correct settings for your machine and the material you are using.

hold vinyl to light

The first time I cut the design, there was a bubble in on of the vinyl pieces and this caused a defect in the cut.  I also discovered that it was very difficult to “weed” out all of the tiny cuts for the design – it took me over half an hour to do just one side of the design.  There are many tiny pieces and it was helpful to hold the vinyl up to a strong light to be sure everything was properly weeded.

lifting vinyl placed directly on may

Since I had to recut the second section, I tried peeling off the protective backing and placing the sticky side of the vinyl directly on my mat (use an older mat that is less sticky if you try it this way).  The bits stayed on the mat for the most part and the last few were simple to remove from the cut.  Of course you then have to remove the tiny pieces from the mat but a scraper will make fast work of this job.

find center of tile

Once I had my vinyl pieces weeded I could carefully apply them to the mirror tile.  I bought the beveled edge mirror tile squares in a box of six for about $20 at Home Depot.  To help me align the two pieces and keep everything centered I placed the tile on a white paper and measured the center point on each side.

etching cream on mirror tile

I added one of the extra 1/2 inch strips I had trimmed from the vinyl before cutting the design to cover the center seam area to make sure that no etching cream could get through.  I applied the etching cream with a foam brush taking care to get into all of the teeny tiny nooks and crannies.  I tried to be sure that there was complete coverage on all of the areas where the mirror was exposed.

scraping off etching cream with old card

I left the cream on the tile much longer than the directions indicated.  I have heard from many people that if you do the recommended time the etching effect is very slight.  I think the cream was on the mirror for a total of 25 – 30 minutes.  I used an old card to scrape off the excess cream and put it back in the jar to use on another project.

after washing off etching cream

After I scraped off most of the cream I rinsed off the residue under warm water.  The areas that showed through were no longer shiny so I knew the etching worked!

etched mirror tile

Here is the tile after the vinyl was removed.  I was able to save the vinyl so I can use it again for a project – don’t throw away the protective backing amd you will be able you can store your design if you think you will want to use it again.

candles and vase on mirror tile

When you add some crystal pieces, flowers and candles you will have a lovely table centerpiece.

four candles on mirror

Here you can see another view with the votive candles lit.

top view with vase and candle holders

One more view from straight above.  I was very happy with the results.  You just need to take your time and watch carefully for any loose edges so the etching cream only works on the areas you want to etch.

You can download the file for this design at this link – have fun etching!

Front Cover
1   Cut the bucket and spade square card feature (page 60 of handbook) at 4.45″ with WorldWin Double Mates   cardstock Belgium Blue side #1 VIVID shade.
TIP – I have used WorldWin Double Mates cardstock throughout this project. Double Mates
is double sided cardstock with a VIVID shade on Side 1 and a complimentary RICH shade on Side 2.
I will indicate which side of the cardstock I have used thus – #1 OR #2.
2  From the Alison Ellis “Make A Splash” Collection (used throughout this project), Ocean Depths paper, cut the cover paper, incorporating the three fish in the lower left corner.

3     Cut an aperture (window) in the cover paper to match the Belgium Blue square card.

Attach the Ocean Depths paper to the cover using a glue stick, ie. PRITT or BOSTIK.
TIP – When dry, the glue gives the cover more stability. Using double-sided tape or Xyron does not
give any rigidity to the project.
Select the bucket and spade main feature (no buttons selected) page 60, at 3.4″ and then FLIP the design. Cut using Berry Red #1.
TIP – You need to FLIP the design because the bucket and spade are facing the opposite direction to
the square card feature.
Discard the bucket and sand, and keep the spade.
TIP – Unfortunately, Cricut does not have a feature layer that includes the bucket and spade that fits the
 card features.
7    Select the bucket and spade main feature (no buttons selected) at 3.01″ and then FLIP the design, as before. Cut using Meri-Gold #1.
8   Discard the spade and sand, and keep the bucket.
Select the bucket and spade Layers feature at 3.07″ and then FLIP the design. Cut once using Berry Red #1 – handle  of bucket, and once using Desert Dune #1 – sand.

TIP - I have designed and constructed this mini book using Gypsy. I have not tested the cuts for size on

Design Studio.
10 Layer the bucket, spade, sand and handle, adding highlights to the layers.
11  Cut the title for your book using the Life Is A Beach font. I have cut the S and F at 2″ and the ummer and un at 1″. Summer in Berry Red #1 and Fun in Meri-Gold #1.
12  Decorate your cover with embellishments and ribbons from your stash.
TIP - Use your stash!! I know you’ve got it!!
